Sam Altman Warns Against Ceding the Future to Superintelligence

OpenAI's CEO posted a widely shared statement insisting humans must retain control over the future — and drew immediate eye-rolls from a fatigued audience.

Sam Altman struck a cautionary note on Tuesday, writing that "People should always be in control of the future... People should not cede control of the future to superintelligence," in a post from @sama that went viral. The sentiment is unobjectionable on its face — nobody is campaigning to hand the keys to a superintelligence — which is part of what makes the framing worth examining.
