The Frontier Reopens: Meta, Google, and Microsoft All Ship on the Same 48 Hours
Meta returned to the top tier with Muse Wonder, Google pushed Gemini 4 Argon to general availability, and Microsoft unveiled its Maia 300 inference chip — a coordinated-looking convergence that reset the competitive map overnight.
For most of this year the frontier conversation belonged to two labs. That changed in a single news cycle. Over October 12 and 13, Meta, Google, and Microsoft each made moves that put them back in direct contention at the top of the model and infrastructure stack — and the common thread running through all three was agents.
Meta led the headlines. The company unveiled two new frontier models, Muse Wonder and Wonder Full, which @ASIChronicles called Meta's "first real frontier models with Active Memory and Active Focus for agents." The framing matters. Rather than chasing raw benchmark supremacy, Meta is positioning these models around two agent-centric capabilities: Active Memory, which persists context across chats, and Active Focus, which the company says keeps models on track during hard, long-horizon tasks. As @marcopapa99 reported, Wonder is available today on the Meta Model API alongside Muse Code.
