A new paper and freshly published Fed adoption data reveal a widening gap between how anxious workers feel about AI and what the economic numbers actually show.
The most striking data point in AI economics this week is a disconnect. A new paper titled "Job Loss Fears in the First Years of Generative Artificial Intelligence," flagged by @Jon_Hartley_, finds that workers are deeply worried AI will take their jobs — and that, so far, the labor market data tell a different story. The fear is real and widespread; the displacement, at least in aggregate, has not yet materialized in the numbers.
