AI Finds DNA's Hidden 'On Switch' Across 60% of Human Genes

UC San Diego researchers used an AI model trained on 500,000 sequences to identify the initiator sequences that trigger gene expression in a majority of human genes.

A quieter scientific result surfaced in this week's briefings: researchers at UC San Diego reportedly used an AI model to decode what a roundup from @TraffAlex described as DNA's hidden "on switch" — the initiator sequences that determine where and when a gene begins transcription. The model, trained on roughly 500,000 sequences, was able to identify these initiators across about 60% of human genes.
