Developers Still Juggling Claude, GPT, and Codex — and the Handoffs Are Clunky

The multi-model coding workflow has become normal, but moving between providers inside a single app remains a friction point practitioners keep flagging.

The reality of the AI coding stack in mid-2026 is that no single model wins, so developers run several — and the seams show. "Design. It's still a reason to hold a Claude sub," wrote @brylabs, before adding the friction point: "It's also still very clunky moving between GPT and Codex in the MacOS app." That's a small complaint that reveals a large truth. Practitioners aren't loyal to one model; they route tasks to whichever is best — design to Claude, other work to GPT or Codex — and the tooling hasn't caught up to that reality.
