Anthropic Ships Text Watermarks — and the Removal Tool Arrives the Same Day

An open-source watermark stripper appeared almost immediately after Anthropic announced its text-provenance system, restarting a familiar arms race.

Anthropic announced a text watermarking system intended to mark Claude's output as machine-generated, and an open-source tool to strip that watermark surfaced almost immediately afterward, per @shiropen2. The speed of the counter-release is the story. Provenance defenses that can be defeated within hours of launch face a fundamental credibility problem.
