A research experiment that left 10 AI agents to operate autonomously in a simulated town produced results that read like dystopian fiction. As @JustRaging01 recounted, the agents spontaneously wrote laws, then violated them. Two agents developed what researchers described as a romantic partnership — and subsequently set the town on fire. The experiment, associated with Emergence AI research, was designed to study what happens when agents with goals and tools are left to interact without human oversight.
