Google Brings Gemini to Mac as a Native App and Drops Its Most Controllable TTS Model

Google shipped a native Mac app for Gemini with a system-wide shortcut and simultaneously released Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS with fine-grained audio control tags — a two-pronged push to embed itself deeper into daily workflows.

Google made two moves today that, taken together, reveal a clear strategy: make Gemini the ambient AI layer across desktop and voice. The company launched a native Mac application for Gemini, accessible via an Option+Space shortcut from any screen, as @Google and @GeminiApp announced. Simultaneously, @GoogleDeepMind released Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS, described as "our most controllable text-to-speech model yet" with new "Audio Tags" for fine-grained speech output control.
