California's AI Safety Law Puts Pressure on Federal Regulators

California's SB53 — the first state-level AI safety regulation — is now law, and the governor's office is publicly calling on the Trump administration to follow suit.

California has passed the first AI safety regulation in the United States, and its governor's office isn't being subtle about wanting the rest of the country to follow. As @GovPressOffice announced, SB53 establishes accountability standards for frontier AI models, with New York already moving to adopt similar frameworks.
