Claude Code Ships New /init Command That Interviews Developers to Configure Itself

A new version of Claude Code's /init command conducts a structured interview with the developer and automatically configures skills, hooks, and project context — a small but meaningful step toward self-configuring dev tools.

Anthropic has quietly updated Claude Code with a revamped `/init` command that fundamentally changes the onboarding experience, as @trq212 documented. The new version, enabled via the `CLAUDE_CODE_NEW_INIT=1` flag, conducts an interactive interview with the developer — asking about the project structure, preferred workflows, and coding conventions — then automatically generates a configuration that includes skills (reusable capabilities), hooks (event-triggered actions), and persistent context.
